From May 30th to 31st, 2020 Shanghai University Leagues Forum for International Young Scholars was held online. The forum was hosted by Shanghai Education Talent Exchange Service Center and Shanghai University Talent Work Alliance, and organized by 14 Shanghai universities including East China University of Science and Technology, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiaotong University. ECUST organized the “Green Eng. Forum” which was attended by the Party Committee Secretary of ECUST Du Huifang, Vice President Qian Feng and other ECUST leaders and professors.
The launching ceremony of the forum was held on the evening of May 30th, 2020. The main venue of the forum was at Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Island, and the sub-venue was at East China University of Science and Technology. Many leaders attended the opening ceremony in ECUST, including Du huifang, Party Committee Secretary of ECUST, Qian Feng, Vice President, Yan Haifeng, Director of the Personnel Department, Xiu Guangli, Party Committee Secretary of SREE, Wang Hualin, Dean of SREE, Zhu Xuedong, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Chemical Engineering, Li Chunzhong, Dean of SCE, and Xiang Yanxun, Party Committee Secretary and Dean of the School of Machinery and Power Engineering. Qian Feng, on behalf of ECUST, had an online exchange with experts and young scholars attending the forum at the main venue. Professor Bernard L. Feringa, the ECUST visiting professor of Internationally Renowned Masters and the Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, on behalf of well-known scholars, sent greetings to young scholars online. More than 200 first-class international experts and more than 1,000 young scholars from nearly 30 countries and regions participated in the video conference via the online platform.
The SULF 2020 “Green Eng. Forum” held in ECUST on May 31st was online and offline. Vice President, Qian Feng delivered a speech, in which he shared his views regarding the significance of the green engineering era based on the “domestic and international situations” to encourage the young scholars to practice the mission of serving the country through science and technology, uphold the concept of “ a community of shared future for mankind” to promote the development of green engineering. Wang Zhen, Director of Shanghai Green Technology Bank, delivered a speech, introducing the Green Technology Bank. The forum was presided over by Wang Hualin, Dean of SREE, and other leaders from Personnel Department, School of Chemical Engineering and School of Mechanical Engineering.
Many experts were invited to deliver presentations, including Professor Han Buxing, academician of the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Zhang Yuanhang of Peking University, Professor Xu Ming of University of Michigan, Professor Daniel Kammen of University of California, Berkeley, and Professor Li Junfeng, First Director and Chairman of Academic Committee National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC). Professor Wan Ying of Shanghai Normal University, Professor Wang Yutao of Fudan University, Dr. Wu Xinjun of Corning Advanced-Flow Reactor Technology Co., Ltd., Professor Yang Qiang of ECUST and other international first-class experts and scholars focused on the theme of “Green Eng: Serving a Community of Shared Future for Mankind”, delivered lectures on Sustainable Chemistry, Green Chemical Industry, Environment and Ecological Engineering, Resource Recycling Engineering, Low-carbon Energy Engineering, Green Process Engineering and Intelligence and Safety Engineering. More than 1000 young scholars participated in online conferences and discussions. In addition, editors of Green Energy & Environment and One Earth were invited to introduce the journal in detail.
Three sub forums themed “Green Environment and Energy Resources”, “Green Chemical Engineering” and “Green Process Equipment Engineering” attracted young scholars from the United States, Germany, Singapore, Denmark, Switzerland, Japan, Scotland, Luxembourg and other countries to give presentations and have discussions on topics related to Green Development.
The online forum, transcending the limit of time and space, promoted the development of young scholars, international academic exchanges, future innovation and cooperation and the construction of a community of shared future for mankind through a series of academic exchange, inter-school interaction and cultural communication.
