On November 20, 2020, Professor Qi Fei from the School of Mechanical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was invited to visit our school to deliver a talk on “Combustion Diagnosis and Combustion Reaction Flow”. The event was hosted by Professor Wang Fuchen from the Institute of Clean Coal Technology, with more than 50 teachers and students from the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering and the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering participated.

Professor Qi Fei gave an overview of combustion diagnosis technology, including a detailed introduction of synchrotron radiation vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry technology and some related domestic and foreign cases according to his own research experiences. Then he introduced findings of the working method of enol, an important intermediate in the oxidation process of hydrocarbons, for the first time in human history by cooperating with scientists from the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory of the University of Science and Technology of China, the United States and Germany. The results of this research were published in an internationally renowned academic journal of science. At last, he introduced advanced laboratories in the field of combustion diagnosis in China and abroad, pointing out some unsolved problems in this field, and answering some hot issues that teachers and students are concerned about.
