In the afternoon of October 16th, the sixth lecture based on the current situation in China was held at the Yifu Building of Xuhui Campus of ECUST to further explain the profound meaning of risk prevention, poverty alleviation and pollutant control mentioned in the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Director of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment and our alumni Shou Ziqi was also invited to deliver a speech themed “Pollution Control to Promote Sound Development in Shanghai”. Also, President Qu Jingping attended the report meeting, with Wang Huifeng, vice president and member of the Standing Committee of ECUST Municipal Committee of the CPC being the host.
Mr. Shou’s report included three parts: people should be provided with guiding principles, the government must take actions and how to practice in Shanghai. He introduced major decisions made by the national government to solve the ecological problems under the guidance of the Communist Party. Though in the past few years, great changes have been made in industry, agriculture, and transportation in Shanghai, there are still many challenges in environmental protection and improvement. Focusing on the goal to build Shanghai a charming city with blue sky, clear water and green plants, he also presented a number of strategies.
He also thought highly of the efforts our school has made to protect environment including the key laboratories, joint atmospheric observation bases and service environment risk management. What’s more, he suggested combining discipline advantages in our school to prevent the pollution and work together to develop Shanghai in its construction of ecological civilization.
Wang Huifeng, on behalf of ECUST, thanked Mr. Shou for his comprehensive report which made us aware of the importance and urgency of ecological construction, gave us confidence and informed us what we should do in the future.
In the Q&A part, Mr. Shou Ziqi answered questions involving “the technology support and research direction of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment”, “ozone pollution control” and “plans for sound development in Yangtze river delta” and encouraged students to pay attention to the construction of ecological civilization.
This lecture was co-hosted by School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, Student Affairs Office and Graduate School. Leaders from President’s Office, Alumni Liaison Office, Student Affairs Office and Graduate School, all faculties from School of Resources and Environmental Engineering as well as about 300 students attended.
