School of Resources and Environmental Engineering Held Exchange Meeting on University Ecological Civilization Construction and Intelligent Ecological Monitoring Technology

On the afternoon of February 6, the Exchange Meeting on University Ecological Civilization Construction and Intelligent Ecological Monitoring Technology, co-hosted by the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology, the Key Laboratory of Environmental Risk Assessment and Control for Chemical Processes of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Environmental Standards and Risk Management for Chemical Pollutants in Environmental Protection, was held at ECUST Xuhui Campus. The meeting was chaired by Xiu Guangli, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering of the university and Director of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. 

Relevant leaders from departments such as Zhao Jianzhi, Director of the Natural Ecological Protection Division of the Shanghai Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau, Mao Lan, Deputy Director of the Logistics and Security Division of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and Wu Jianqiang, Deputy Director (in charge of work) of the Ecological Research Institute of the Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences, as well as enterprise representatives from alumni enterprises including Shanghai Zhengxing Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., Pulizi Environmental Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Yiqing Environmental Technology Development Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Disney Resort, attended the meeting. Xu Hongyong, Director of the University River Chief Office, Cao Na, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, Sun Xianbo, Vice Dean, Cao Yue, Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee, Huang Qinwei, Student River Chief of Qingchun River, Guo Yuchi, a river protection volunteer, and other teachers and students participated in the exchange. 


 

Zhao Jianzhi introduced the current situation of biodiversity monitoring in Shanghai, focusing on analyzing the policy orientation and implementation path in aspects such as the construction of smart governance platforms. Deputy Director Mao Lan introduced Shanghai's typical experience and working mechanisms in promoting the integration of the river chief system in universities with volunteer services and deepening the practice and education of ecological civilization, delivered a themed report titled Our Journey is Rivers, Lakes and Seas, and shared typical cases of the construction of water-beautiful campuses in Shanghai. Xu Hongyong introduced the organizational structure, operation mechanism and implementation effects of the university's three-level river chief system, demonstrating the systematic exploration of universities in campus water management. Xiu Guangli focused on reporting the school's work of building the New Era Ecological Civilization Practice Party building brand, exploring the practice and education path of empowering the river chief system with digital technology, and deeply integrating Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization into course teaching, scientific and technological innovation, social volunteer services and campus cultural construction. He analyzed the current achievements and put forward plans and visions for further promotion in the future. Li Cuiying, General Manager of Shanghai Zhengxing Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, introduced application cases of intelligent monitoring equipment, big data analysis and AI recognition technology in real-time monitoring of river water quality, biodiversity assessment and other aspects, and shared her understanding and insights on empowering ecological governance with science and technology. Huang Qinwei, the student river chief of Qingchun River, reported on the participation of student volunteers in river patrol, science popularization and publicity, social practice and other aspects. The participating representatives conducted exchanges and discussions on aspects such as digital and intelligent empowerment, the construction of practice education classrooms, and the construction of practice bases for Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization. 

Finally, the participants jointly visited the Qingchun River AI Biodiversity Smart Monitoring Platform located on the campus, and experienced on-site the application of technologies such as intelligent sensing and data visualization in university ecological governance and popular science practice. 


 

The meeting aims to explore the establishment of a multi-party technology exchange and sharing platform for universities, governments, enterprises and other parties, and provide practical guidance for further deepening the integrated innovation of intelligent monitoring + ecological governance and promoting the practice of ecological civilization education in universities. 

The Party Committee of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology, has been innovating the carriers of ecological civilization practice, building a platform for the publicity and practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, promoting one integration and two highs. It has been approved to build a benchmark college for Party building in Shanghai's universities, has undertaken multiple projects from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and other parties, and is advancing the construction of an ecological civilization practice and education system. A number of awards and achievements have been obtained. In 2025, the promotional video of the river chief system won honors such as the I Am a Commentator of Beautiful China Excellent Promotional Video awarded by the Department of Science, Technology and Finance of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
