On March 10, the Second Academic Committee Meeting of the Joint Innovation Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the Innovation Center) of Dongfang Boiler and East China University of Science and Technology was held at ECUST Xuhui Campus. President Xuan Fuzhen, Wang Hualin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Nie Li, General Manager of Dongfang Boiler Co., Ltd. of Dongfang Electric Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Dongfang Boiler), Li Weicheng, Deputy General Manager, Zhang Tao, Deputy Chief Engineer, and others attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Tu Shandong, Director of the Academic Committee of the Innovation Center and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Members of the Academic Committee of the Innovation Center and key members of the center attended the meeting.
In his speech, Xuan Fuzhen stated that since the establishment of the Innovation Center, the university and the enterprise have achieved fruitful cooperation results in key areas such as scientific and technological development and talent training, providing a replicable and popularizable practice sample for industry-education collaborative education and technological collaborative innovation. ECUST will further deepen the industry-education integration with Dongfang Boiler, with a focus on industrial development needs, to jointly carry out technological breakthroughs, develop new technologies and new achievements that meet the actual needs of enterprises and adapt to the development trend of the industry. In addition, it will connect with the talent demand of the industrial chain, optimize talent cultivation programs, and strive to cultivate high-level innovative talents with both innovative thinking and practical ability.
In his speech, Nie Li pointed out that the ties between Dongfang Boiler and ECUST in talent cultivation and scientific and technological development have become increasingly close, realizing an important leap from fragmented cooperation to organized cooperation. In the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, it is hoped that both parties will continue to uphold the principle of long-term cooperation and long-term development, follow the requirements of cultivating new quality productive forces, focus on Dongfang Boiler's high-quality development goal of low-carbon, green and intelligent, and deepen the industry-education collaboration empowerment between both parties.
In his speech, Tu Shandong pointed out that Dongfang Boiler and ECUST have established a good cooperative relationship since 2011. Both parties have focused on the innovation and breakthrough of key core technologies, and have achieved fruitful cooperative results in the fields of biomass hydrothermal liquefaction, maleic anhydride reactors, boiler ash and slag resource utilization, coal gasification, etc. The Innovation Center is an important measure for the university and the enterprise to deepen industry-education integration and serve the national carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategy. It is necessary to further target the national strategic needs, gather superior forces, and strive to realize the promotion of industrial innovation through scientific and technological innovation, and advance high-quality development with new quality productive forces.
At the meeting, Xue Yanhui, Deputy Director of the Collaborative Innovation Management Department of Dongfang Boiler, introduced the work progress of the Innovation Center in 2025. Professor Qiao Xiuchen, Professor Wang Weize, Professor Zhu Mingliang, Associate Professor Liang Qinfeng, Associate Professor Fu Pengbo, and Associate Research Fellow Liu Bo from our university respectively reported the progress of the projects they undertake and their next-step plans. Members of the Academic Committee put forward targeted and operable guidance suggestions for the next-step research plan of the Innovation Center, focusing on the deepening of research content, optimization of technical routes, refinement of assessment indicators and other aspects.
Relevant responsible persons from Dongfang Boiler's Collaborative Innovation Management Department, Environmental Protection R&D Department, Vessel R&D Department, Material R&D Department, Process R&D Department, Oriental Hydrogen Energy Production and Storage R&D Department, as well as responsible persons from our Office of Scientific Research and Development, School of Resources and Environmental Engineering and other units attended the meeting.
