To fully implement the national strategy of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, further promote green and low-carbon development, and stimulate the innovation vitality and practical spirit of young college students, the final of the 3rd Canature Health Cup Shanghai College Students' Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition was successfully concluded at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology on May 17. Students from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) won 2 special prizes, 3 first prizes and 5 second prizes with their solid professional skills, innovative scientific research thinking and outstanding practical achievements, and the university was awarded the Excellent Organization Award, demonstrating the youthful demeanor of ECUST students who are deeply engaged in environmental protection and practice low-carbon concepts.
As the on-campus organizer of our energy conservation and emission reduction competition, the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, under the guidance of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has long been responsible for the cultivation, selection and competition preparation organization of the university's participating projects, and has won the Excellent Organization Award for many consecutive years with its solid and complete competition organization capability.
At the closing ceremony of this event, a handover ceremony for the organizer was held, and East China University of Science and Technology was officially elected as the organizer of the 4th Shanghai College Students' Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition in 2027. Professor Xiu Guangli, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, attended the handover ceremony on behalf of the university, and took over the event flag from Professor Xie Jinping, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Energy and Power Engineering, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, successfully completing the handover of the right to host the event.
In his speech, Professor Xiu Guangli said that taking over the event flag is not only a high recognition of the university's school-running strength and event hosting ability from the organizing committee and universities in the city, but also a heavy responsibility. The university will make every effort to coordinate resources, refine the preparation plan, improve the event guarantee, build a high-level municipal science and innovation exchange platform with high standards and high quality, gather the science and innovation strength of universities in the city, and deepen inter-university exchanges and cooperation to promote green and low-carbon technological innovation and the cultivation of young talents.
Shanghai University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction is guided by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the Teaching Guidance Committee for Energy and Power Majors of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, and hosted by the Organizing Committee of the Shanghai University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction. It is a brand event of college students' scientific and technological innovation with extensive influence nationwide, guiding young students to devote themselves to the construction of ecological civilization and green scientific and technological innovation. The Shanghai University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction has been successfully held for three sessions since the first session was hosted by Shanghai University of Electric Power, and its influence has been improved. Projects that win the special prize in the municipal final can obtain the qualification to enter the national competition, building a green channel for students from Shanghai universities to directly participate in the national-level competition from the municipal competition field.
As a national Double First-Class construction university, East China University of Science and Technology has always been closely aligned with the Two New and Two Major strategic layout, connected with the 15th Five-Year Plan development plan, and taken green low-carbon and ecological environmental protection as the core direction of discipline development and talent training. Taking the energy conservation and emission reduction competition as the starting point is a key measure for our university to deepen innovation and entrepreneurship education and improve the cultivation quality of top-notch innovative talents. Adhering to promoting learning, innovation and education through competitions, the university promotes multidisciplinary cross-integration, guides young students to base on their majors, serve the national strategy, and devote themselves to the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality cause and ecological civilization construction.
At present, our participating teams have summarized the competition experience, focused on innovation practice, and are fully preparing for the national competition, striving to achieve better results again. Hereby, we sincerely invite teachers and students from all universities in the city to pay attention to and actively participate in the 4th Shanghai University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction in 2027. We will gather at East China University of Science and Technology next year to jointly attend the meeting of green science and technology innovation and draw a blueprint for low-carbon development together.
