The first opposition multi-burner (OMB) pulverized coal pressurized gasification demonstrative industrial device jointly developed by the East China University of Science and Technology and Shandong Energy Group, with a daily coal feeding volume of 3,000 tons, has been continuously operated for over 120 days, and the pass rate of all of its process indexes reached 100%. The overall operation is steady and efficient, and the economic effect is continuously made. According to the introduction, Yankuang Lunan Chemicals Co., Ltd. kept strengthening management at the beginning of the year, gave full play to the technical strength of the large-scale multi-nozzle opposed coal-gasification device, exhausted all oxygen of the whole plant, and made all efforts to win the battle for output and efficiency improvement. At present, the device has the effective gas (CO+H2) content of 92-94%, the specific oxygen uptake rate of 290-310 Nm3/kNm3 (CO+H2), the specific coal uptake rate of 510-530 kg/kNm3 (CO+H2), and the carbon transformation rate that is higher than 99%. The full-load effective gas output exceeds 210,000 cubic meters/h, which fully reflects the advanced nature of the large-scale multi-nozzle opposed pulverized coal gasification technology. It is the second duration of continuous operation that has lasted for more than one hundred days since the gasifier was put into production in July 2024, infusing new kinetic energy into the high-end, diversified, and low-carbon development of China's modern coal chemical engineering industry.


The industrial demonstrative device not only reaches the biggest treatment scale of the pulverized coal gasification technology, but also has the competence in clean and efficient gasification of high-ash-fusion-point, high-ash-content and inferior feed coal or low-rank coal with poor slurry ability, which are abundant in China but are hard to transform and utilize. Its adaptability to different types of coal is stronger, and its performance indexes are better. Professor Liu Haifeng of the East China University of Science and Technology introduced. Taking high-water-content and high-alkali-metal Zhundong coal as the raw material, the three multi-nozzle opposed waste heat boiler-chilling process pulverized coal gasifiers, with a daily coal feeding volume of 4,000 tons, will be applied to the project of coal-based olefin production of Xinjiang Shanneng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd., with an annual output of 800,000 tons.


The history of the cooperation between Shandong Energy Group (formerly known as Yankuang Group) and the East China University of Science and Technology in the field of coal chemical engineering is long. The two parties stuck to the concept of mutual complementation with respective strengths and joint innovation to jointly construct research and development bases, such as the Key Laboratory of Coal Liquefaction and Gasification and Efficient and Low-carbon Utilization, the National Engineering Research Center of Large-scale Coal Gasification and Coal-based New Materials, etc., and successfully developed large-scale entrained flow coal-gasification technology with independent intellectual property rights, such as multi-nozzle opposed coal-water slurry gasification, pulverized coal gasification, etc., with the highest single-boiler coal feeding volume of 5,000 tons per day, ranking the first in the world.


From the 8th Five-year Plan, the East China University of Science and Technology started to continuously carry out research and development of the clean and efficient carbon-containing substance gasification technology with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and successively developed multi-nozzle opposed coal-water slurry gasification technology, multi-nozzle opposed pulverized coal gasification technology, SE pulverized coal gasification, SE coal-water slurry gasification technology, SE oil gasification, and high-methane-gas non-catalytic transformation technology, which were ed and applied to more than 100 projects and over 290 gasifiers (reforming furnaces). At the same time, facing the urgent need of green fuel preparation in China, it also researched and developed a series of organic waste gasification techniques, such as domestic garbage gasification, biomass gasification, etc., which were applied to five engineering projects, among which the green methanol production project of Shanghai ICT Developer, with an annual output of 300,000 tons, has a biomass gasifier with the largest scale in the world (the single-boiler effective gas output is 85000 Nm3/h). At present, the East China University of Science and Technology has built a resource feature-based and demand-oriented system of carbon-containing substance gasification technologies, which powerfully supports the green and low-carbon development of modern energy and chemical engineering industry.
