On April 22, the School of Resource and Environmental Engineering held the 25th session of the activity, E Era: Gathering All Schools of Thoughts, and specially invited Professor Bruce Rittmann, an Academician of the National Academy of Engineering of America, a member of the board of directors of the Arizona State University, and a world-famous technical expert of environmental biotechnology, to give a themed lecture. The activity was hosted by Sui Qian, the Vice Dean of the School of Resource and Environmental Engineering.

Based on his experience of studying for a doctoral degree and rich experience of education and teaching, Academician Bruce Rittmann shared his research course and achievements and told teachers and students how postgraduates and scientific researchers can be successful. He highlighted the crucial effect of maintaining curiosity and perseverance in the path of scientific research. It was just the longing for knowledge and the spirit of unremitting exploration that ed him to keep moving ahead in the research field of perfluoro and polyfluoroalkyl new pollutant joint defluorination and mineralization. At last, his team successfully realized the in-situ synthesis of the Pd0-based catalytic membrane, which provided a brand-new idea and approach for new perfluoroalkyl pollutants.

In the link of communication and interaction, teachers and students asked questions positively, and Academician Bruce Rittmann answered questions patiently. He encouraged students to be brave to think and innovate and bravely face failures and challenges. Teachers and students learned a lot. The process not only expanded their academic horizon, but also strengthened the inner driving force that ed them to engage in scientific research innovation.

After the lecture, Academician Bruce Rittmann visited the National Engineering Research Center of Industrial Wastewater Hazard-free Treatment and Reclamation, mainly observed the innovative achievements in the field of wastewater reclamation, such as low-carbon separation based on physical methods, efficient and green hydrogen production, etc., of the engineering center, and carried out academic communication and in-depth discussion with young scientific researchers and students regarding the cutting-edge technology of industrial wastewater treatment and the path of sustainable development.
