Recently, the Third Clean Coal Technology Innovation and Development Forum themed Leading the Green Future with Innovation and Empowering Coal Transformation with Science and Technology, was held in Shanghai. The forum was jointly hosted by the East China University of Science and Technology and the editorial department of Clean Coal Technology and held by the Key Laboratory of Coal Liquefaction and Gasification and Efficient and Low-carbon Utilization, the Engineering Research Center of Carbon-containing Waste Reclamation and Carbon-free Utilization of the Ministry of Education, etc., and the Periodical Publishing Company of the China Coal Research Institute served as the co-organizer. The forum attracted nearly 300 experts, scholars, enterprise representatives, and relevant practitioners from all over the country to discuss the cutting-edge development and application practice of clean coal technology.

The opening ceremony of the conference was hosted by Professor Yu Guangsuo of the Research Institute of Clean Coal Technology, and Professor Li Chunzhong, the Vice President of our university, and Bi Yonghua, the General Manager of the Periodical Publishing Company of the China Coal Research Institute, made speeches respectively. Professor Xie Qiang, the chief editor of the journal, Clean Coal Technology, reported the developmental history and achievements made in the 30 years after the journal was first published. Li Chunzhong said in his speech that clean coal technology, as a core driving force of the low-carbon transformation of the coal industry, has important significance for the achievement of the goal, Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality. He pointed out that as a key higher learning institution that features chemical engineering, the East China University of Science and Technology is continuously committed to scientific and technological innovation and talent training in the field of energy and chemical engineering. Centering on the strategy of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality, it implements the developmental arrangement of two new items and two major affairs and es key technical breakthroughs in the industry. The forum aimed to gather cutting-edge intelligence, overcome the difficulty of efficient coal transformation and clean utilization, e the propagation and application of the clean coal technology, and assist the green and high-quality development of the coal industry. He hoped that experts who attended the forum could further deepen their communication and cooperation and jointly contribute intelligence to the transformation and upgrade of the industry, and he wished the success of the forum in advance.
The report link of the conference was hosted by Professor Wang Fuchen of our university and Professor Yao Qiang of Tsinghua University. Professor Yao Qiang of Tsinghua University, Professor Qiu Jieshan of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Professor Wang Yanji of the Hebei University of Technology, and Professor Wang Fuchen of our university made special reports for the conference respectively. Five sub-forums were set in the forum, and they focused on the themes, including efficient transformation, clean combustion and pollutant control, coal-based new materials and high-value optimization, CCUS and green energy coupling, postgraduate forum, etc., comprehensively covering all inks of the clean coal technology. After two-day communication, research, and discussion, the forum made abundant achievements. Specialists who attended the forum reached a consensus and jointly believed that, as a key technical measure to realize efficient and clean utilization, clean coal technology plays an indispensable role in China's energy structure transformation and the process of sustainable development, and its development and application prospects are broad. It has far-reaching strategic significance for energy safety and environmental protection of the country.
The forum held established a high-quality platform of cooperation and communication for specialists, scholars, enterprise representatives, and relevant practitioners in the field of the clean coal technology, ed knowledge sharing, experience exchange, and collaborative innovation of various parties, and fully reflected our university's positive response to the goal of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality, ion of the green transformation of the coal industry, and the willingness to undertake duties and responsibilities to empower the country's material strategies with scientific and technological innovation.
