On November 21, the Review Conference for the Great Platform (hereinafter referred to as the grand platform) of the Intensive Breakthrough in Hydrogen Energy Green Manufacturing and Utilization Self-acceptance of the Ministry of Education was held in Shanghai. Chen Xuedong, an Academician of Sinomach Group Co., Ltd., Shi Bi, an Academician of Sichuan University, Qian Xuhong, an Academician of East China Normal University, Jiang Jianchun, an Academician of Nanjing Forestry University, Yao Danhua, the General Manager of Shanghai Electric Shanghai Boiler Plant Co., Ltd., Shi Jingwei, the General Manager of Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Company Limited, Gong Liming, the General Manager of Dongfang Electric Fuel Cell Technology Co., Ltd. of Dongfang Electric (Chengdu), Zhang Ling, the General Manager of the Waigaoqiao Third Power Generation Co., Ltd. of Shenergy Group, Li Xingchun, the Director of CNPC Research Institute of Safety & Environment Technology, Tang Hongnian, a Chief Specialist of Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering Co., Ltd., and Zhao Yixin, the Director of the New Energy Office of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, attended the conference. Xuan Fuzhen, the President of the East China University of Science and Technology, Academician Tu Shandong, the Director of the grand platform, and Academician Wang Hualin, the Executive Deputy Director of the platform, attended the review conference. The conference was hosted by Yang Qiang, the Director of the Research Institute of Science and Technology Development.

Xuan Fuzhen represented the university to appreciate all specialists who attended the review conference. He pointed out that the construction of the Great Platform of the Intensive Breakthrough in Hydrogen Energy Green Manufacturing and Utilization of the Ministry of Education, was approved in 2023, and the platform significantly supported the university to e the integration revolution of education, science, technology, and talent systems and mechanisms as a whole. Depending on platform construction, the university has made a series of innovative achievements in the fields of hydrogen energy production, storage, utilization, etc., and constructed a complete training system for talents in the low-carbon industry, which powerfully ed scientific and technological innovation and industrial upgrade in the field of energy chemical engineering. The university will take the chance of platform acceptance to further accelerate the research and development of advanced technology, strengthen capacity for high-level talent independent cultivation supported by a grand platform, a big team, and a large-scale project, thus making new and bigger contributions to the green and low-carbon development and modern energy system construction of China.

Zhao Yixin represented the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality to warmly congratulate the grand platform that made abundant achievements in terms of green hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen security, hydrogen energy utilization, etc. He said that the grand platform centered on full-chain design, integrated deployment, and other aspects to carry out a series of explorations with a manifest effect, realizing high-level collaboration with Sinopec, CNCEC, Shenergy Group, and other leading enterprises in the hydrogen energy industry. It effectively transformed the fundamental studies and key technical innovation of the East China University of Science and Technology in the field of hydrogen energy into industrial advantages and contributed the power of the East China University of Science and Technology and the level of Shanghai to the national strategy, Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality. He suggested that the university should further explore and establish organization management mode, personnel employment mechanism, evaluation and incentive mechanisms, etc., which can adapt to the need for integrated breakthroughs, strengthen the targe-oriented resultant force of scientific research, give full play to the effect of supporting and guaranteeing of the grand platform in terms of science, technology, education, talents, etc., and continuously e the innovative development of science and technology in key fields.

Tu Shandong and Wang Hualin introduced the overall construction situation of the grand platform in detail in four aspects, namely construction progress, highlights of work, security implementation, and talent training. The grand platform closely centered on the important strategic needs for hydrogen energy development in China, initiated the Program 135, namely constructing 1 national platform, focusing on 3 developmental directions, and constructing 5 demonstrative projects, to construct a full innovation chain covering the process from original innovation to achievement transformation, intensively developed key and core techniques of hydrogen energy production, storage, and utilization, realized significant breakthroughs in terms of some key and core techniques, such as green hydrogen production, low-carbon hydrogen utilization, hydrogen storage, hydrogen safety, etc., by exploring the organized scientific research mode for higher learning institutions, which deeply integrated the new school-running system and the market mechanism, made important progress in terms of scientific teams, platform bases, systems and mechanisms, technical breakthroughs, engineering demonstration, etc., and comprehensively reached various construction tasks' indexes.

5 demonstrative engineering sites, including the refinery with the biggest scale in the world and the annual volume of hydrogen produced by gasification of 200,000 tons, the first facility with the annual hydrogen gasification production volume of over 10,000 tons in China, the first facility of three-dimensional-structure alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production with the unit hydrogen production volume of 2,000 Nm3/h in China, the first power plant CO2-capturing coupling green hydrogen production with the annual methanol production volume of over 10,000 tons in China, and the first facility of agricultural and forestry waste gasification with the annual methanol production volume of 50,000 tons in the world were checked in the review conference through video calls.
