Founded in December 2011, the Coal-gasification Engineering Technological Research Center of Shanghai mainly researches coal-water slurry gasification, pulverized coal gasification, synthetic gas production based on gas/liquid hydrocarbon, waste gasification, safe and low-carbon new gasification technology, etc.
The engineering center closely centers on the energy security of China and Shanghai, the goal of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality, and important needs of industrial development, focuses on material and core issues related to the low-carbon, efficient, and clean utilization of coal and other fossil fuels, actively carries out fundamental research on gasification technology application, key technology development, and industrialized ion and application. The first coal-gasification technology successfully developed by the center (with an independent intellectual property right) is a milestone in the history of China's coal-gasification technological development. The technology was exported to America in 2008, which is the first case of exporting a large set of chemical-engineering technology from China to a developed country. In recent years, the center has made new breakthroughs in large-scale technological application and raw materials' adaptability, and it has led the progress of gasification technology at home and abroad. The center constructed a coal-water slurry gasification device with the biggest scale in the world. It also successfully developed gasification technology for feed coal with a high ash fusion point and a high ash content and the technology of partial oxidation of hydrocarbon raw materials. The center is the only one famous research institute that simultaneously holds the technology of industrialization of three states of gasification raw materials (coal-water slurry, dry pulverized coal, and gas raw materials) in the world. The center won 2 Second Prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, 3 Provincial Grand Prizes, and 10 Provincial First Prizes. It has been successively selected as the innovative team of the Ministry of Education and the innovative team of the Ministry of Science and Technology in crucial fields.
